Today is Wednesday, January 8th, and these are the top stories making headlines halfway through the week:

  • Congress convened Monday to count the votes of the Electoral College and formally cement President-elect Donald Trump's victory in the 2024 presidential election. Vice President Harris said presiding over the vote was like officiating the wedding of the ex that cheated on you with your sister.

  • Russian police fined 7 people during a nightclub raid for “looking too gay” — or as it’s known in Russia — smiling.

  • On Tuesday, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced a series of major changes to the company's moderation policies and practices including ending its fact-checking program. Although, based on what already gets shared on Facebook, Meta ending fact-checking policies is like Arby’s ending health inspections.

  • Plastic surgeons project the new trend in 2025 will be smaller, more natural looking breasts, known as “yoga boobs.” You can someone has yoga boobs because their nipples are downward facing.

  • Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his resignation from office Monday after a decade as the country’s leader — Trudeau’s resignation is a huge blow to the marketability of the annual calendar — “Hunks of the G20.”

  • A new study reveals you lose 36 minutes of your life for every hot dog you eat. And three years with every McRib.
