Today is Wednesday, August 21st, and these are the top stories making headlines halfway through the week:

  • During her speech at the Democratic National Convention, Lt. Governor of Minnesota, Peggy Flanagan, said her boss Tim Walz does his job with “a big heart, a buffalo plaid jacket, and a bottomless bag of snacks” including Nutter Butter, cheese curds, and Diet Mountain Dew. Endlessly consuming Nutter Butters, cheese curds, and Diet Mountain Dew is why democrats believe Walz is the perfect vice president to oversee the senate, as he’s no stranger to dealing with blockages.

  • A survey from YouGov say 11% of Americans think they should apologize more often. Although, the 11% drops to zero if the unruly outburst was preceded by ten minutes of asking for a “REP-RE-SEN-TA-TIVE!” 

  • According to a new study, the dodo, a bird species extinct since in the 1600s, was actually powerful and speedy – not slow and inept as they’ve been depicted in pop culture. In fact, the team says the name dodo is a mistranslation — truth be told, the bird was originally named the gogo and was hunted to extinction by humans to make boots. 

  • Lena, a rare female Amur Leopard living in England, has found a mate thanks to a dating app for zoo animals. Her new mate, Freddo, caught her attention with his profile bio — “Prowler in the streets. Beast in the sheets.” 

  • Tuesday was World Mosquito Day. If you missed it this year, don’t worry — it sucked. 

  • Six Flags Great America announced plans to open Wrath of Rakshasa, a new record-breaking dive coaster, in 2025. The 180-foot-tall ride will feature the world's steepest drop. To give you an idea of how sharp the feeling of the drop is, they say imagine you’re a member of the Trump campaign. 

  • After two years of marriage, Jennifer Lopez has filed for divorce from Ben Affleck. Said Affleck:
